Hularama Hawaii - Dance-O-Rama

First Shown: 18 February, 2018 on YouTube

Who hasn't wanted to go to Hawaii? I had not contemplated going until an opportunity to attend an International Arthur Murray Dance-O-Rama (Hularama in Hawaii) came up. So, I signed up for a 4 night stay at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort on the big island, Kona. I flew Hawaiian Airlines and the colourful dress of the cabin staff put everyone in the holiday spirit. Other students from my studio were on-board the flight but as each of us booked our own seats we were scattered all about the cabin.

Ten hours after take off I was on the ground in Honolulu. Next job was to find the inter-island flight to Kona International. I was pre-booked so all I had to do was collect my luggage and walk it over to the domestic terminal which was surprisingly close. Another hour and a half later and I was on Kona. A mini bus took our group to the resort, we signed in and disappeared in all directions. The resort was huge.

Our whole stay was planned out for us. That evening we attended a themed Dinner Dance, in fancy dress. The following day we enjoyed a boat cruise that combined dolphin and humpback whale watching along with swimming and snorkling. There were some specialty dancing to watch that night along with a smorgasbord dinner.

Dancing heats the next day occupied all the day, but I had time to wander the resort and do my videoing. The resort was huge. Americans overdo everything and it was amazing to see. That night we were entertained at a Luau, under the stars, by hula dancing and singing while we ate.

Another day of dance heats followed, ending with another dinner dance and farewell. One more sleep and early the next morning I was up and out catching the hotel shuttle bus to the airport. I could not get a return booking on the same flight as the rest of the group but they caught up with me in Honolulu since there was only one flight to Sydney that day. I spent an hour wandering the duty free shops, drank a coffee, bought an hawaiian shirt and a t-shirt to remind me of the great time I had visiting Hawaii.

Oh, if you are interested, in my category I won gold (that's 1st with honours) in 6 of my heats, 1st place in four, a 2nd and a 3rd. Can't win 'em all.
